Aje: Never a witch, always a queen

"In the first issue of “Aje” a comic book published by Comic Republic, Teni casts a curse on her boyfriend in a rush of jealous rage and purple lightning. “Koni dara fun o ni yi aye (it will never be better for you in this life),” snarls Teni in Yoruba, a language from one of the major ethnic groups in Nigeria". - Culled from The Guardian Newspaper. 22nd January, 2016.

Some may say the release of the Aje comic book is apt as social media is currently lit up with conversations about cheating partners. From ‘Becky with the good hair’ in Beyonce's song Lemonade to ‘Edible Catering’ in Tiwa Savage's marriage, the world is looking deeper at relationships and the ideology behind keeping up appearances on social media. The journey into the world of Aje not only reveals a hurting female superhero, betrayed by her boyfriend who cheated on her with a friend, it also takes us into the world of a Hunter Knight driven by a fanatical desire to rid the world of infestation of witchcraft. Intent at rooting out the source of his accursed blight at all costs, he will stop at nothing to stamp out this evil, wherever it may hide. “They are vermin, fit only for one thing … my blade, he exclaims”- culled from Aje issue 1.

I particularly like Aje because in each edition you are guaranteed to be swept off your feet with beautiful scenery, fashionable trends and of course culture.
